Cologne - Man with knife dies after being shot by police
There was a fatal incident in Cologne on Thursday evening involving a gunman and a shot fired by police officers. Much remained unclear in the evening. According to police and the public prosecutor's office, a 28-year-old woman called the emergency services at around 7 p.m. to report an attempted robbery in Ehrenfeld. A man, whose identity was still unknown that evening, had tried to rob her while she was sitting in her car.
After the attempt failed, the woman pursued the perpetrator and informed the police of the man's location. When officers arrived, he was standing by a cab with a knife. When the man did not comply with the request to put everything away, an officer is said to have shot him. According to the police, the man fell to the ground and injured himself. He died in hospital.
The exact course of the incident is currently still unclear and is the subject of an investigation, which - for reasons of neutrality - has been entrusted to an investigation commission of the Bonn police, it was reported late in the evening.
