Man gets life in prison for murder of wife
The fact that his wife wants to lead a self-determined life does not suit a Kosovar. He therefore stabs the mother of his three children in a parking lot in Aachen and films the dying woman. The 37-year-old is now facing life imprisonment for his actions.
The Aachen Regional Court has sentenced a 37-year-old man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife. The 28-year-old died in the parking lot of a DIY store after being stabbed 20 times in front of several witnesses. The woman had left her husband, who came from Kosovo, and moved into a women's shelter with their three children.
The accused had confessed to the crime in a short statement at the beginning of the trial, but also said that he no longer remembered the details. The separated couple had arranged to meet in Aachen on May 20 in the parking lot opposite the police headquarters to hand over a daughter. However, the man did not bring the child with him, but attacked the 28-year-old with a butcher's knife. Six of the stabs were fatal, according to the court. Some of the bones had been severed by the force.
According to the court, the defendant then drove slowly past the dying woman and filmed her with his cell phone. The cell phone and the murder weapon were never found. A few hours later, he turned himself in. The 28-year-old, who had trained with a doctor, had wanted to lead a life of her own choosing, explained the presiding judge. But the defendant, who had no criminal record, had been jealous and had exercised "unbearable control" over the woman with a German and Kosovan passport.
He was desperate, "coupled with boundless anger that she had dared to evade his grasp". He had made the decision to kill the 28-year-old if he did not succeed in changing her mind. The court found that the murder criteria of malice aforethought and base motives were fulfilled. It also established the particular gravity of the guilt. Although this legally permits release from prison after 15 years, in practice it is virtually impossible. The verdict is not yet final.
