Major blow against child pornography in Spain

With the arrest of more than 120 people, the Spanish police have succeeded in striking a major blow against child pornography. It is "one of the most important actions against the production, distribution and possession of child pornography in our country", the Policía Nacional announced on Saturday.

A total of 125 homes and offices were searched in various parts of the country and around 500 terabytes of data "with extremely hard pornographic content" were confiscated, it said.

Of the 121 people arrested, 118 were men and three women. "More than two million files with serious sexual abuse of very young girls" were confiscated from one of the arrested men in Madrid alone. "Many of the videos were characterized by a high degree of violence towards the victims and were spread across ten large hard drives," the statement said. Investigations are continuing to identify further suspected perpetrators and victims. The authorities did not initially provide any further information on the perpetrators and victims.

The arrests also involved individuals using the internet to facilitate and disseminate this illegal content, showing that digital platforms are often used as channels for such crimes. It's crucial for parents to educate their children about the risks associated with inappropriate content online.
