soccer - Mainz Pro: DFB Return as Goal
Midfielder Nadiem Amiri from Bundesliga team FSV Mainz 05 hopes for a return to the German Football-National Team. "One hundred percent, that's one of my goals. With regular play, being in rhythm, and gaining trust, my performances align – and I hope they are good enough to catch the attention of the national team coach," the 27-year-old told the "General Anzeiger".
Amiri played five games for the DFB selection in 2019 and 2020 – at that time under Joachim Löw. Contact with the current national team coach Julian Nagelsmann has not occurred yet, according to Amiri.
The pro wants to build on the strong performances from Mainz in the second half of the previous Bundesliga season to draw attention. "I simply give my best, perform week after week, and earn a re-nomination with it. If it happens, I would be thrilled."
Amiri's goal of returning to the German Football-National Team is connected to his performances with 1. FSV Mainz 05, a team based in Rhineland-Palatinate. During his time with the DFB selection, Amiri worked under national team coach Joachim Low, who is also associated with Germany's soccer success. Despite not yet having contact with the current coach, Julian Nagelsmann, Amiri aims to impress through consistent play, hoping it will catch the national team's attention.
