Bamberg - Machete attack in refugee shelter - Three arrests
After an alleged knife attack during a dispute, the police in Bamberg have arrested three residents of the Anker-Institution Oberfranken. A 23-year-old Moroccan is being investigated for attempted murder, according to the Oberfranken Police Presidium and the Bamberg Public Prosecutor's Office on Monday. Two other countrymen, aged 21 and 24, are accused of causing bodily harm.
The 23-year-old suspect is alleged to have attempted to attack a Syrian resident of the Anker-Institution with a knife. A remand judge eventually issued an arrest warrant for the three suspects. They are now in custody.
Fight between two groups
According to current knowledge, there was a fight between a Moroccan and a Syrian group at the refugee accommodation on the previous Friday around midday, the investigators reported. Some Moroccan residents, according to the preliminary investigation results, physically attacked the Syrian group and used pepper spray.
The Anker-Institution Oberfranken is the first point of contact for asylum applicants in the district. It is located on the grounds of a former US base on the eastern outskirts of Bamberg. According to the Oberfranken government, there are currently approximately 1,500 refugees living there.
