Trade - Lots of movement among the self-employed in Thuringia

There has been a lot of movement in business registrations and deregistrations so far this year. According to the State Statistical Office on Thursday, around 9600 Thuringians had started a business by the end of October. This was 6.9 percent more than in the same period last year. This was offset by just under 9000 business deregistrations. This was 6.2 percent more than in the year to October 2022, meaning there were 94 deregistrations for every 100 registrations.

Small businesses and sideline businesses accounted for the largest share of new start-ups, with a good three quarters of the total. The rest were business start-ups with greater economic substance such as corporations, partnerships and businesses with employees. There were 1746 such business start-ups - roughly the same number as in the same period last year. According to the statisticians' figures, the main reason for business deregistrations was the complete abandonment of the business (80 percent). This included 1836 businesses with greater economic substance, which is more than the number of new start-ups.
