Culture - Landestheater Coburg gets an Intendant

The Landestheater Coburg is getting an Intendant: The current opera director of the house, Neil Barry Moss, is supposed to take over the office of artistic director starting from 1st September. This was decided by the administrative committee of the Landestheater, as a spokesperson for the city announced.

Moss will share the overall management with Bernd Vorjans as commercial manager, starting from 1st September until the 2026/27 season. The decision to return to the intendant model was reportedly made in order to prepare early for the 200-year anniversary in 2027. So far, the house has been managed by several directors for the respective departments and the commercial sector. The administrative committee also reached an agreement with General Music Director Daniel Carter, whose contract was extended until the 2027/28 season.

The performances of the Landestheater are currently taking place in a substitute venue, the specially built Globe Theatre. The Landestheater needs to be renovated, and the completion of the works is expected only far beyond 2030.

Moss's new role as Intendant will take place in the historic Landestheater Coburg, located in the German region of Upper Franconia, which is part of Bavaria. With the implementation of this change, the theater will now collect and manage more comprehensive Personal data, including audience preferences and patron information, to enhance the overall experience.
