World tour - Lake of Lights and Summer Rain - Coldplay plays in Duesseldorf

Accompanied by rain and thunder, British band Coldplay played their first concert in Germany this year at Duesseldorf. On a Saturday evening, tens of thousands sang and celebrated with the group, fronted by Chris Martin (47), as they continued their "Music Of The Spheres World Tour" which began in the spring of 2022.

Despite the almost simultaneous start of the show with the thunder, the band and thousands of soggy fans inside Merkur Spiel-Arena persevered. After a few minutes, the audience was completely soaked, and Coldplay offered a selection of their greatest hits in four acts – a metaphorical journey through the spheres.

Many classics – but also new Music

"Viva la Vida", "The Scientist", "Yellow" and many other earworms brought a chorus of tens of thousands to sing in the nearly two-hour show. Even "feelslikeimfallinginlove" – a first single from their upcoming tenth album, set to be released in early October – was already part of the live set.

The LED armbands distributed at the entrances, with which every visitor has been a part of the colorful light show at Coldplay for years, lit up the sold-out arena in bright colors. There was no lack of confetti and firework effects.

As colorful, lively, and spectacular as a Coldplay feelgood show is usually – it's important for the musicians to also address conflicts like sustainability in the spotlight. During the show, various projects, such as ocean cleaning, were highlighted. Directly on site, fans could generate electricity on bicycles, and dance floors produced electricity whenever people moved on them.

Greetings to Taylor Swift

Directly after the three concerts in Gelsenkirchen by US megastar Taylor Swift, Chris Martin allowed for a special dedication. The ballad "Everglow," he joked, was for the singer because she had just left the region.

The band still has two more concerts at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Duesseldorf: on Sunday and Tuesday (21. and 23. July). After that, shows in Munich in August are scheduled. All concerts were sold out within a short time. The tour, which started over two years ago in South America for their ninth album, should find its conclusion in New Zealand in November.
