Paul Maar, the inventor of "Sams" (86), is getting a museum: A museum is to be built in the Franconian small town of Hallstadt, only a few kilometers from his residence in Bamberg. "I am happy that my collection and works now have a home in Hallstadt and that my books and stories will be experienced by many generations," Maar said according to the commune's announcement.

Maar's family roots in Hallstadt

Maar has created numerous books, illustrations, sketches, plays, scripts, and costumes during his decades-long artistic career, it was further stated. The city council has already given the green light. The fact that the museum is to be built in Hallstadt is due to the family ties of the author, as he said: "Many do not know that my biological mother, Barbara Benker, and my grandparents are from Hallstadt."

Moreover, close connections between Maar and the city have developed in recent years through readings, exhibitions, and encounters, explained Mayor Thomas Söder (CSU). Through the great support at these events, the idea of creating a Paul-Maar Museum was born.

Funding being sought

A suitable property has already been found, and the concept is in place. Now, in the next step, funding for the project is to be raised.

Besides the "Sams" series, Maar has also written numerous children's and youth books. Additionally, he is active as an illustrator or author of scripts and plays.

The museum dedicated to Paul Maar's works will be located in his family's hometown, Hallstadt, which is near his residence in Bavaria's city of Bamberg. Due to his family ties in Hallstadt, Maar expressed his joy about the establishment, saying that his collection and stories will be experienced by future generations. The city's support for Maar's work has grown significantly in recent years through events like readings, exhibitions, and encounters, leading to the idea of founding a Paul-Maar Museum.

In addition to the famous "Sams" series, Paul Maar has also authored numerous children's and youth literature. Besides writing, he is an accomplished illustrator and scriptwriter for plays. Fundraising efforts are now underway to realize the dream of building a museum for Maar's extensive literary and artistic legacy in Hallstadt.
