Football-Bundesliga - In the second attempt: VfB also loses Guirassy after Anton

It has been hinted for a long time, then delayed, and now it's official: Forward Serhou Guirassy is switching from VfB Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga. The transfer is perfect after a lengthy negotiation, with the Guinean national team striker receiving a contract at Dortmund until June 30, 2028.

Guirassy is leaving Stuttgart with warm words, expressing title ambitions in Dortmund.

Emotional Words for VfB and Fans

"I had the best two years of my career here," said the 28-year-old in a statement from VfB. In social media, he thanked Stuttgart fans for their support. They had shown him "unbelievable kindness." The decision to leave the club was "the most difficult" of his career, the striker said.

Excitement for the Yellow Wall and Title Hopes

The prospect of possibly playing permanently at the top with Dortmund seemed to have attracted him too much. If Dortmund had asked, he said it was "something special," Guirassy told his new employer in a statement.

"Every child interested in football in the world knows this club, knows the black-yellow jerseys, knows the Yellow Wall," he said. "I came to get titles," the striker said. "That's my demand, that's my motivation." What Dortmund achieved, showing their entry into the Champions League final last season, proved it.

Second Examination Brings Relief

A failed medical check in the previous week had delayed the Borussia Dortmund agreement with Guirassy. However, another examination revealed that the injured knee of the attacker did not require surgery. According to doctors' estimates, he should be fit for action again this summer, Borussia announced.

Guirassy has played for VfB since September 2022. In the previous season, he scored 28 goals in 28 league games for a club record and contributed significantly to Stuttgart's leap from a near-relegation team to the championship contender within a year.

Wohlgemuth Praises "Outstanding Athlete"

The striker had "always shown himself to be an outstanding athlete" at VfB, said Sporting Director Fabian Wohlgemuth. "We had an open exchange about his future sports plans." They had tried hard to convince Guirassy to stay. In vain.

Guirassy's successor, Stuttgart had already arranged. For 21 million euros plus bonus payments, they signed striker Ermedin Demirović from FC Augsburg. The most expensive purchase in the club's history signed with the vice-champion until 2028.

  1. Guirassy's decision to join Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga brings excitement for the famed Yellow Wall, known worldwide for their black-yellow jerseys and passionate support.
  2. Despite the difficulties in his career, such as the delayed transfer due to a failed medical check, Guirassy remains ambitious, aiming to win titles with Dortmund, as Stuttgart did last season.
  3. Born in Guinea, Serhou Guirassy had a successful two-year stint with VfB Stuttgart in the Football-Bundesliga's Baden-Württemberg region, boosting their title aspirations and setting a new club record with 28 goals in 28 league games.
  4. Waldemar Anton, the Sporting Director of Borussia Dortmund, expressed delight at signing Guirassy, a versatile striker with promising potential, and welcomed his addition to the squad in North Rhine-Westphalia.
  5. Guirassy's versatility and adaptability have made him a valuable asset, with the German side eager to incorporate his strengths into their ambitious title campaign in the Bundesliga.
  6. While Stuttgart bid a heartfelt farewell to the outgoing Serhou Guirassy, they quickly turned their attention to a replacement, acquiring Ermedin Demirović from FC Augsburg for 21 million euros plus additional bonus payments, bolstering their championship contender status.
