soccer-bundesliga - In the second attempt: Guirassy switch to BVB perfect
The transfer of Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund is perfect after days of negotiations. According to the Bundesliga club, the former VfB Stuttgart striker signed a contract until 2028. A failed medical check last week delayed the agreement with the 28-year-old. As reported by the media, a second medical examination ordered by BVB revealed that the torn outer band in his knee does not require surgery. Therefore, nothing stood in the way of the transfer.
"It was important for us, in the interest of BVB and the player, to obtain as precise a specialist assessment of Serhou's injury as possible. Thoroughness prevailed over speed here," commented business manager Lars Ricken on the signing. "Now all the facts are on the table, and we are convinced that we have made the right decision with this transfer."
Guirassy is the second transfer from VfB Stuttgart to Dortmund in the Bundesliga. The Guinean national team player was able to leave the vice-champion thanks to an exit clause in the reported amount of 18 million euros. In the previous season, he contributed significantly to Stuttgart's leap from a relegation candidate to a Champions League participant with 28 goals in 28 league games.
The Dortmund newcomer spoke confidently: "Every child interested in football in the world knows this club, knows the black-yellow shirts, knows the Yellow Wall. I am very excited about all of that, about my new teammates. And it's important for me to say: I came here to win titles. That's my ambition, that's my motivation."
Guirassy will likely miss the first league games of his new club in the Bundesliga against Eintracht Frankfurt (24. August) due to his injury. "Guirassy will first have to complete an individual rehabilitation program and, according to the doctors' assessments, could still be fit for action in the summer," the club statement read.
After the agreement with the much-courted newcomer, Dortmund have four alternatives for the attacking midfield in Niclas Füllkrug, Sébastien Haller, and Youssoufa Moukoko. Therefore, Haller, who had to fight many follow-up problems and injuries after his cancer treatment, is a potential sale candidate.
Furthermore, the Guirassy transfer has fueled speculation about a departure of national player Niclas Füllkrug, who must fear for his place in the starting lineup at the Champions League finalist. According to "Bild," AC Milan is interested.
