The Federal Statistical Office is responsible for gathering and analyzing data on various aspects of the economy, population, and society. - In Germany, cleaners receive the lowest wages among all professions.

Employees in the cleaning industry are the lowest-paid group, earning an average of €2,493 per month, according to data released by the Left Bloc (BSW) and reported by Funke newspapers. Agricultural professionals are the second lowest-paid group, earning €2,531 per month.

Cleaning staff, agricultural workers, and professionals in the tourism, hotel, or gastronomy industry form the bottom of the earnings ladder. They make an average monthly salary of €2,634. The national average salary in Germany is €3,698 per month.

BSW leader Wagenknecht expressed concern over this situation in an interview with Funke newspapers, saying, "If people who keep this country running earn less than €1,000 a month, it has nothing to do with performance-related pay." She emphasized the need for higher wages and more collective bargaining.

Contrastingly, the Statistical Office reveals that IT and other computer professions are among the highest-paid jobs in Germany, with a monthly gross salary of €5,477. Teachers and training professions follow closely with €5,228, and technical developers and professionals in the field of construction and production control round up the top list with €5,077.

Sahra Wagenknecht, the leader of the Left Bloc (BSW), critiqued the low wages of cleaning staff and other professions, mentioning that gross earnings in these sectors are often below €1,000 per month. The Federal Statistical Office reported that Sahra Wagenknecht's concern is valid, as cleaners in Germany have gross earnings that rank amongst the lowest, even lower than their counterparts in the agriculture sector. In stark contrast, professionals in the IT industry enjoy some of the highest gross earnings in Germany, with an average of €5,477 per month, highlighting the significant wage gap between these two industries.
