Over 3,000 carpooling groups have been organized since the introduction of the so-called ClimateTicket Plus by the Hamburg Transport Authority (HVV). Airbus announced this. The ClimateTicket Plus has been available since March only for Airbus employees. Employees with the ticket who carpool with their own car and take a colleague with them receive a bonus. Passengers with a ticket have no additional costs.

The HVV confirmed on inquiry that the ClimateTicket Plus is a so-called pilot project, meaning a trial. An expansion is considered possible. According to the HVV, large companies with many employees who need a car to reach their workplace are in consideration. The ticket allows holders to use public transportation as well.

Airbus: high demand for ClimateTicket Plus

Airbus confirmed on inquiry that around 90 percent of the workforce had decided in favor of the ClimateTicket Plus. "There is particularly high demand from employees who commute from the south of the Elbe to the plant," said an Airbus spokesperson. Airbus has around 18,000 employees in Hamburg according to its own statements.

Up to three euros per trip

The HVV works with the Cologne app provider GoFlux for billing of the carpooling groups. The GoFlux spokesperson stated that Airbus employees received a maximum of three euros per trip. The bonus is based on the distance. A maximum of a 30-kilometer trip is paid. Currently, drivers are paid only for the ride of a single passenger. However, this is expected to change in the future.

GoFlux stated that the company is currently in talks with other large employers in the Hamburg area who are interested in the service.

The Hamburg Transport Association (HVV) is considering expanding the ClimateTicket Plus pilot project to large companies with numerous employees who require automobiles for commuting. Hamburg, being the city with a significant Airbus workforce of approximately 18,000, is highly interested in this initiative.

The Hamburg Transport Association collaborates with Cologne-based app provider GoFlux for the billing of carpooling groups participating in the ClimateTicket Plus program, offering up to three euros per trip as a bonus for each ride shared.

The Hamburg Transport Association Association's partner, GoFlux, is currently in discussions with other prominent employers in the Hamburg area, expressing interest in implementing similar rideshare programs.

Airbus employees, commuting from the southern part of the Elbe to their workspace, are reportedly among the main contributors to the high demand for the ClimateTicket Plus, which is currently available only through the Hamburg Transport Association (HVV).
