traffic - Holiday beginning - full highways, trains and airports
At the beginning of holidays in Bavaria, it's going to be crowded - on the streets, at airports, and train stations. According to ADAC, there will be heavy traffic on highways 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9, as well as A95, 95 and 99 in Bavaria. Airports and trains are also giving travel recommendations.
Weekend with the most traffic jams
According to ADAC, the last July weekend of the previous year was the most congested of the twelve travel weekends nationwide. With the holiday start of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the Automobile Club expects long traffic jams on the highways in the Free State again. The metropolitan areas and border crossings are expected to be particularly affected, according to ADAC Südbayern. In the neighboring Alpine regions, problematic stretches include the Brenner-, Tauern-, Fernpass-, Inntal-, Karawanken- and Gotthard-Routes.
To avoid the heaviest traffic, vacationers should ideally not leave on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays - or if they must, then only in the late afternoon, recommends the Traffic Club. In addition, more time should be planned. To avoid waiting times at toll stations, necessary vignettes can be purchased in advance.
Millions of air travelers in Bavaria during the summer holidays
The airports in Munich, Nuremberg, and Memmingen expect a lot of passenger traffic. Munich Airport alone expects over six million passengers in the coming holiday weeks, with 400,000 passengers on the first weekend. Buffer time at the airport can make the travel day more relaxing. Some flights even allow for online check-in in advance. At Nuremberg Airport, there are baggage drop-off machines that shorten waiting times. Travelers can also organize their journey to the airport more relaxed in advance. Booking a parking space in advance or using the shuttle bus from the train station, as recommended by Flughafen Memmingen.
High demand for trains during holiday periods
For those traveling by train, it is recommended to secure a seat. Most train journeys take place during the holiday period, as a spokesperson noted. The return journey is distributed over several days. The train load is therefore indicated on the internet and in the app. It is recommended to reserve a seat. Flexible travelers are advised to use connections in the early morning and later evening.
Millions of students start their holidays
For approximately 1.7 million students in Bavaria, the holidays begin on Friday. "I wish all students, student teachers, and our wonderful school community wonderful and relaxing summer holidays. My heartfelt thanks go to all members of our fantastic school family, who have enriched the past school year with their enthusiasm, curiosity, and great commitment," said Bavarian Minister of Culture Anna Stolz (Free Voters). Everyone deserved a break.
