Tariff Agreement - Higher wages for student employees

Student employees at Berlin universities will receive higher wages starting from January 2025. The Tariff Commission of student employees from Verdi and GEW, as well as the Berlin universities, have agreed on an hourly wage of 14.32 Euro, as the unions announced. This corresponds to approximately 4.6% more money.

Retroactively from May 1, 2024, the minimum wage in the collective agreement will be set at 13.69 Euro. However, the payment of an inflation adjustment premium was rejected by the universities, according to GEW, "a bitter disappointment" for students. Approximately 7000 student employees and tutors were negotiated for.

The Tariff Agreement between the Tariff Commission, Verdi, GEW, and Berlin universities is significant for student employees. The United Services Trade Union, being a part of these negotiations, aims to advocate for the best interests of its members. Regrettably, the universities did not approve the payment of an inflation adjustment premium, as per GEW's statement. You might be interested to know that this Tariff Agreement could potentially impact the wages of future student employees at Berlin universities.
