Brand - High damage after fire in harbor at Nienburg
A fire at a harbor in Nienburg destroyed several boats and caused estimated damages of approximately 1.5 million Euros. Three people were lightly injured during the fire, as the police reported. At Marina Mehlbergen's harbor, a sports boat caught fire while docking. According to the police, a technical defect was likely the cause of the fire. The crew's attempts to extinguish the fire failed, and the flames spread to a nearby boat.
Due to the fire, the boat came loose from its mooring and sailed through the harbor basin burning. According to the police, five more boats were partially damaged as a result. There was a significant development of smoke, three people inhaled smoke gases and suffered light injuries, the police added.
The sports boat, where the fire originated, has sunk and now lies at the bottom of the harbor basin. The recovery work – also for the other damaged boats – was supposed to begin according to the police on Sunday. The harbor is closed indefinitely. The police have taken over the investigation.
