soccer - Hertha offensive player Schuler: 'Fire and Flame'
Luca Schuler, midfielder of Mittelstürmer, is looking forward to his first season with Hertha BSC. "It has always been a dream of mine to play in such a big club, with fans like these and such charisma," said the Hertha BSC newcomer in a press conference during the team's training camp in Austria, Walchsee. "When the call came, I was fire and flames and I'm absolutely thrilled that it all worked out in this way."
Schuler, who is 25 years old, had to sit out the past few days due to a fever and returned to team training on Monday. He hopes to prove himself to his new trainer Cristian Fiel. "I didn't come with the expectation of just sitting on the bench. I'll give it my all and try to contribute and bring my qualities to the pitch," said the native of Rhineland-Palatinate, who joined Hertha from second-league rival 1. FC Magdeburg.
"Brutal quality" in the squad
An incentive for the transfer was Hertha's performance in the previous year. "When I saw how the offense was utilized, that was also a reason that convinced me to join. This energy and this power – I had a very combative impression of the team," said Schuler, who attributes a "brutal quality" to the new squad. "The coach has a tough job."
Schuler sees his teammates, including top scorer Haris Tabakovic from the previous season, not as rivals but as colleagues. "I've always gotten along well with striker colleagues – and I mean that explicitly not competitors – super. I can observe myself everywhere," said the striker, who sees the team "on a good way" for the new season.
"This will be a tough, exciting season. Anyone can beat anyone," said Schuler. "Many want to go up and there will be some disappointments. But I am firmly convinced that we will be happy in the end."
- Christian Feil, the new trainer at Hertha BSC Berlin, will be tasked with managing the team's "brutal quality," as Luca Schuler, the midfielder from Mittelstürmer who recently joined Hertha from 1. FC Magdeburg, described the squad's qualities after being impressed by the team's offensive performance in the previous season.
- During his time with Hertha BSC Berlin, Luca Schuler hopes to prove his worth to Christian Feil and contribute to the team, as he stated he did not join the club with the expectation of merely sitting on the bench.
- Schuler, who hails from Rhineland-Palatinate and had to miss a few days of training due to a fever before returning on Monday, expressed his excitement about playing in the Second Bundesliga with Hertha, a club he has admired and dreamt of playing for since his youth in Berlin.
