Lena Oberdorf sustained a cruciate and ligament injury and will be missing from the Olympic Games German football team. The DFB announced this following Oberdorf's injury during FC Bayern's 4:0 win against Austria in Hannover. She was then examined in Munich.

"This news hurts! Our worst fear has come true. We're all thinking about Obi and feeling for her," said Bundestrainer Horst Hrubesch. The replacement for the 22-year-old, a central figure in the German squad, will be announced in the coming days.

Oberdorf will be out for several months and will also be absent from the German champion from Munich, to whom she recently transferred from VfL Wolfsburg. The German women's team departs for Marseille on Sunday, where they will face Australia in the opening match of the Summer Games on the coming Thursday. Other opponents in the group stage are the USA and Zambia.
