Olympia-Test - Handball players defeat Hungary

Germany's handball women celebrated an important test match victory just before the start of the Olympics. A few days after the loss against Brazil, the team coached by Markus Gaugisch won in Stuttgart against Hungary with a score of 30:29 (15:11). In front of 5,022 spectators, Emily Bölk, Xenia Smits, Julia Maidhof, and Antje Döll scored four goals each for Germany. The men's team also won against Hungary with a score of 33:29 (20:13).

The Olympic trial match rises again for the DHB women on Sunday against Brazil. Then it goes on to Paris, where the first group match against South Korea is scheduled for Thursday. Other group opponents are Slovenia and the Scandinavian handball powerhouses Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

Immer wieder Katharina Filter

The DHB women suffered a faulty start and could only keep the deficit in check thanks to strong saves from goalkeeper Katharina Filter. After 20 minutes, Döll rewarded her team for their performance improvement and scored the equalizer, followed by a 9:8 lead. Germany then played with significantly more tempo and minimized simple ball losses.

After the break, the hosts gave away some high-value opportunities. The lead did not shrink despite this, thanks to goalkeeper Filter once again. However, the 25-year-old could not parry every shot, and the Hungarians came back to tie the score and even took a two-goal lead about nine minutes before the end. Thanks to Annika Lotts last-minute goals, Germany managed to secure the victory in the end.

The handball team from Baden-Württemberg, specifically the women's team, had a successful test game against Hungary before the Olympic Games. In contrast, Germany's men's team also triumphed in their test game against Hungary, scoring 33 points to Hungary's 29. The upcoming Olympic trial match for the DHB women is against Brazil on Sunday. This test match victory against Hungary has boosted the confidence of the German team ahead of the Olympic Games, which will be held in Paris. Despite some challenges during the game, goalkeeper Katharina Filter played a crucial role in securing the victory for Germany.
