Hockey Bundesliga - Hamburg's handballers back in the training hall
The HSV Hamburg has started preparations for the new season in the Handball Bundesliga. "It's great to see the boys again", said trainer Torsten Jansen after the first training session in Hamburg's Volkspark.
Present were also Dominik Axmann and Andreas Magaard, who missed the previous series due to long-term knee injuries. The Dane Casper Mortensen (Achilles tendon) and Norwegian newcomer Robin Haug trained cautiously. Goalkeeper Robin Haug (from Elverum HB) will miss the season opener due to a cruciate ligament tear.
New to the Hamburg team, who only received their license for the 2024/25 season in early June, are also U21 World Champion Moritz Sauter (Füchse Berlin), Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Tayar (HBW Balingen-Weilstetten), as well as Levin Unbehaun and Ben Levermann from the team's own youth.
Moritz Sauter will have a lot of responsibility
Especially for Sauter, much responsibility will come. With the departure of the Dutchman Dani Baijens to the French perennial champion Paris Saint-Germain, the 21-year-old is expected to share the playmaking duties with Leif Tissier. "But he's a completely different type of player", Jansen already noted about Sauter's shoulders.
Both El-Tayar and the Hungarian backcourt player Zoran Ilic were missing at the gallop of the table ninth of the previous season. Both are with their national teams at the Olympics in Paris.
The Hamburg team will face Frisch Auf Göppingen in the season opener on September 6 (19.00 Uhr/Dyn). The first home game will then be a heavyweight fight. On September 15, the German champion SC Magdeburg will be the guest in the Arena im Volkspark.
Torsten Jansen and his HSV Hamburg team are preparing for the Handball Bundesliga season start. Despite injuries to some players, new additions like Moritz Sauter, Mohamed El-Tayar, Levin Unbehaun, and Ben Levermann have joined the team. El-Tayar and Zoran Ilic won't be available as they are representing their national teams at the Olympics in Paris. The season opener for HSV Hamburg will be against Frisch Auf Göppingen, while the first home game will be against the German champion SC Magdeburg.
