Booking status - Half-time in holiday regions - 'Satisfied, not euphoric'
During the midpoint of summer holidays in Lower Saxony and Bremen, coastal and Lüneburg Heath destinations are well-booked, but many day-trippers stayed home due to partly stormy weather. In the Harz, there are still some free beds. Until the end of summer holidays in early August, there is still time for spontaneous short holidays. In addition, hoteliers and caterers are counting on guests from other federal states who will stay until late August/early September.
Ostfriesian hosts are still looking for more bookings
Many hosts and tourists along the North Sea coast are hoping for the second half of summer, as sunny bathing and excursion weather has scarcely appeared so far. However, north German muddy weather occasionally dampened the mood. "We are satisfied, but not euphoric," said Wiebke Leverenz of the Ostfriesland Tourism Marketing GmbH in Leer. Currently, accommodations in Ostfriesland are between 70 and 90 percent occupied. "We hope that there will still be a few impulses in the second half of July and August," said Leverenz.
Bookings are particularly dependent on weather conditions. However, there are also many attractions in Ostfriesland for rainy weather, such as museums or national park houses, said Leverenz. A rainy summer day is more easily forgiven by North Sea vacationers. Cancellations have not occurred yet.
Lüneburg Heath fully booked
Hotels, vacation apartments, and camping sites report nearly full occupancy in the Heide. Many guests had made their vacation plans at the beginning of the year and were not deterred by the inconsistent weather forecasts. "We are thrilled with the high demand," said Ulrich von dem Bruch, managing director of the Lüneburger Heide GmbH.
The behavior of campers is always a good indicator, as they are flexible and can leave quickly. "Nothing has happened, they have stayed," reported the tourism expert. The overnight numbers in the large bungalow village Center Parcs at Bispingen are better than the previous year.
Until the end of the summer holiday season of the federal states in late August, everything is fully booked, except for some individual rooms. And after that, nature lovers come to the Heideblume - hoteliers reported very good overnight numbers until the end of September.
Harz hopes for Hamburg and Berlin
The booking situation in the current holiday season is behind expectations, according to the Harz Tourism Association. During the midpoint of the holidays in Lower Saxony, the data indicate that the overnight numbers of the summer 2023 will not be fully reached. The hosts are still not dissatisfied. The mountainous region is counting on the holidays beginning in Hamburg and Berlin on July 18 to boost business.
The partly poor weather has had no significant impact on guests who stay for several days. However, spontaneous short holidays are less booked due to this, which puts pressure on attractions that take place under open skies. The demand for camping and caravan sites is also high despite the weather.
