Ursula von der Leyen is re-elected as EU-Commission President. A good sign, says Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President Gunther - also from the Northern perspective.

EU-Commission President - Günther: Leyen's election is significant

Schleswig-Holstein's Ministerpresident Daniel Günther welcomed the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen (both CDU) as President of the EU Commission. "I am very pleased that she has been confirmed in her office and re-elected with broad support from the middle of the Parliament", said Günther. It is an important signal that democratic forces have come together and elected her.

"Europe is facing various challenges that the Commission can now tackle, and these challenges lie in the right hands with Ursula von der Leyen, her long political experience, her commitment, and her determined, hands-on approach", said Günther. I have known the EU and the Commission in the past few years in important matters for Schleswig-Holstein.

Von der Leyen received around 56 percent of the possible votes in the election and will therefore stand at the helm of the EU Commission for another five years.
