G9 and Language Support - Green-Black brings educational reforms into motion
Few days before the start of summer holidays, the green-black state government brought several educational reforms into motion. The Ministerial Council has released the new school law, the State Ministry in Stuttgart announced. The law regulates, among other things, the return to the nine-year secondary school in Baden-Württemberg, the introduction of a mandatory language promotion, and the establishment of a stricter primary school recommendation. Now, the state parliament must deal with the bill.
Minister of Culture, Theresa Schopper (Greens), spoke of a seven-mile step for the state. With the reforms, we particularly focus on children who have less favorable starting conditions. The absolute focus of the package is language promotion. "Clearly, mastering the language is the key to learning success," Schopper said.
With the law, a million-dollar package for language promotion is to be stepped up at kindergartens and primary schools from the coming school year. In the final design, there will be a mandatory language promotion from the school year 2028/2029. For example, children who still have speech problems at the start of school will be prepared for primary school in so-called junior classes first.
Furthermore, the law regulates the return to the nine-year secondary school from the school year 2025/2026, the content design of the new G9, and the introduction of a stricter primary school recommendation.
