Frankfurt-Mannheim route - Goods Railways: Few problems in the sanitation of the Riedbahn
The Association of Private Freight Railways has given Deutsche Bahn a positive interim report for the ongoing general renovation between Frankfurt and Mannheim. "So far, we only hear about small to medium-sized issues from our members. They also report that hardly any travel time is lost", announced Association Business Manager Neele Wesseln in a statement. However, she cautioned that the many disruptions before construction likely contributed to the fact that previously not the fastest travel times could be achieved.
The general renovation of the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim has been running for about two weeks. Until mid-December, the line will be completely closed for renovations. After the months-long renovation, there will be construction-free conditions on the track for several years.
According to the freight railways, there have been issues since the closure began, but their effects were not significant. "On July 18, the overhead line on the Ludwigsbahn from Frankfurt via Worms to Ludwigshafen tore – one of the two main transformers, which had only been strengthened in March", the Association reported as an example. In addition to the Ludwigsbahn, the line from Frankfurt via Darmstadt to Mannheim (Main-Neckar-Bahn) is being used as a detour for long-distance and freight traffic.
