Computer problems, causing far-reaching disruptions worldwide, are also noticeable in North Rhine-Westphalia. "The customers of Südwestfalen-IT (SIT) are also affected by the global issue," reported the company. This affects approximately 70 municipalities in NRW as SIT customers. The extent was initially unclear. "The duration of the disruption is currently unknown." The SIT customers have already been informed about the current situation.

According to media reports, the cause of the worldwide problems was suspected to be a error in a program update from the IT security company Crowdstrike. For example, an energy company in Australia reportedly caused the problems. Crowdstrike informed its customers about the problems in a statement, as reported by the technology website "The Verge". The error at Crowdstrike reportedly disturbed software from Microsoft, according to media outlets such as Bloomberg. Microsoft had previously reported problems with its Cloud Service 365.

  5. The global reach of this computer problem has even impacted air traffic in areas beyond Europe, causing uncertainties in air traffic management across international boundaries.
