Drowning accident - Girl slides through swimming ring into water - rescued
A roughly six-year-old girl had sinked in the water at Tegeler See while playing and was rescued by a lifeguard. The girl, who cannot swim, had been playing in a swimming ring at the Reiswerder bathing area, according to the German Life-Saving Association (DLRG). From the DLRG station, they had observed the girl slip under the ring and sink in the water.
The lifeguard jumped into the water immediately and brought her back to the water surface. "Given that it involved a non-swimmer, it was a rescue from the brink of drowning," they said. The girl's father had not kept her in his sight during the life-threatening incident.
The DLRG station in Berlin is equipped with lifeguards who are always vigilant during leisure activities at the water. The father regretfully admitted he had been distracted, letting the children play near the water without constant supervision. Despite the absence of emergency signals, the DLRG team swiftly responded, saving the girl from potential drowning.
