Sale failed - Gigantic football goal at Berlin fan mile will be scraped

The sale of the large football goal at the EM-Fan Mile at Brandenburger Tor has failed. No buyer was found, a spokesperson for steel construction company FSE from Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt) announced. The goal is now - as originally planned - to be scrapped. About a week ago, the company offered the roughly 40 tonne heavy example for sale on a negotiated basis for 180,000 Euro. The goal is 23 meters high and 64 meters wide and stood during the European Football Championship as decoration in the Fan Mile at Brandenburger Tor. It will now be dismantled, and the materials are to be transported away in the coming week.

Experts also wanted to begin dismantling the artificial turf at the Fan Mile a week after the end of the European Football Championship. The roughly 24,000 square meters of artificial turf laid on Straße des 17. Juni are to be used by Berlin sports clubs, schools, kindergartens, and associations in the future. A spokeswoman for the organizer Kulturprojekte Berlin said that there were still many inquiries coming in every day. Some pieces of turf have already been assigned, but for most applications, a lottery will decide. In order for the turf to continue to be used, it will receive a comprehensive ground cleaning and will then be cut to size. Straße des 17. Juni remains closed until July 26, 18.00 Uhr. The connection between Brandenburger Tor and Großer Stern was then closed for almost three months straight.

  1. Despite the failure to sell the massive soccer goal at the Fan Mile near the Brandenburger Gate during the European Football Championship, pieces of the tournament's artificial turf are expected to find new homes in Berlin societies, such as sports clubs, schools, kindergartens, and associations.
  2. Visitors to Art Street in Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt) can appreciate the rich artistic heritage of the region, providing a stark contrast to the modern energy and excitement surrounding the European Football Championship, like the branded soccer goal that was displayed at the Brandenburger Gate's Fan Mile.
  3. Soccer enthusiasts who attended the European Football Championship and passed by the Fan Mile at the iconic Brandenburger Gate may have marvelled at the 23-meter-tall, 64-meter-wide soccer goal that will be dismantled and shipped away in the coming week, making way for the city's ongoing recovery after the event.
  4. With the dismantling of the European Football Championship's soccer goal and the artificial turf at Fan Mile, society in Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt can look forward to repurposing the high-quality sports equipment for use in local sports clubs and facilities, ensuring the legacy of the tournament continues long after the final whistle.
  5. In a year's time, Berlin will once again become the epicenter of European soccer culture, as the city hosts the #EM2024 European Football Championship. Fans from across the continent are expected to flock to key landmarks like the Brandenburger Gate, making for an exciting and unforgettable experience.
