Global Champions Tour - German quartet misses podium at Olympia trials

German Olympic show jumpers missed a successful experience at the general rehearsal in Riesenbeck during the Global Champions Tour. Sophie Hinners on Iron Dames Singclair and Marcus Ehning with Coolio managed to bring two local matadors into the jump-off. However, they will not be present in Paris for this event. Ehning finished second behind Belgian Thibeau Spits' win, while Hinners came in fourth place.

For the Olympics, Philipp Weishaupt, Richard Vogel, Christian Kukuk, and Jana Wargers were nominated as reserves by national trainer Otto Becker. However, the quartet did not start in the finale worth €500,000 with their Paris-planned horses due to errors in the first round at Riesenbeck.

The medal ceremony for the team is scheduled for August 2nd, while the decision for the individual event will be made in Paris on August 6th.

Despite missing out on a successful experience during the Generalprobe in Riesenbeck, North Rhine-Westphalia's Marcus Ehning demonstrated impressive riding skills, finishing second in the Global Champions Tour event. Ehning's rival, Thibeau Spits from Belgium, clinched the first position. Unfortunately, Ehning and his mount, Coolio, won't be participating in the Paris event, a significant stage on the Global Champions Tour.

Otto Becker, the German national trainer, nominated Philipp Weishaupt, Richard Vogel, Christian Kukuk, and Jana Wargers as reserves for the Olympic show jumping team. Regrettably, this quartet failed to deliver satisfactory performances during the Riesenbeck finale, which prevented them from participating with their Paris-bound horses in the high-stakes €500,000 event.

Despite the setback at Riesenbeck, Ehning and other German riders like Rider in Spring continue to gain valuable experience in the sport of equestrianism, laying the foundation for a successful international career. The Global Champions Tour provides a platform for them to showcase their skills and compete against the best riders worldwide, including the upcoming event in Paris.
