Fun & Sports - German Murmel-Teams are fighting for the title
Round event: A total of 25 teams, each with four players, will participate in the German Championship for Kuhle Murmeln at Weisenheim am Sand on Saturday (27.7.). "The teams come from all over the federal territory - from Western Ostfriesland to Nordhessen and the Erzgebirge," said Helmut Müller, chairman of ASV Weisenheim am Sand, to the German Press Agency. "The games are played in seven groups with three teams and one group with four teams. The opening match will be played by the 2024 champion, Kirchen from Hessen, against ASV Weisenheim 1."
"Klotschi" is played on three sand courts in the Palatinate town. The game is played with standard porcelain balls with a diameter of 16 millimeters. Six balls are used in the game. The objective is to get them into the hole on the three by six meters large field.
First, players throw the balls, later they can push them into the hole with their index finger. The team that first scores nine points wins the game. A match lasts on average half an hour and consists of up to 16 individual encounters. Each player of a four-man team plays against every opponent from the opposing team.
The winner receives a gleaming Meisterschale as a wandering trophy, and the first three teams receive a cup from ASV Weisenheim am Sand. "We participated in the German Championship for the first time last year in Friesenheim," said Müller. "We were asked if we wanted to host the championship in 2024. Since we have an installation with three courts, the conditions are given. After careful consideration in the club, we agreed."
