International Youth Meetings - German-French Youth Meeting at the Lake Plateau

Students in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern use their summer holidays to establish closer relationships with their peers from European neighboring countries. According to the European Ministry in Schwerin, a French-German youth meeting will begin on Monday in Karnitz near Neukalen (Mecklenburg Lake District). A total of 24 participants aged 13 to 17 from both countries have registered for this event.

This two-week meeting is part of a joint educational project by local initiatives and aims to promote European solidarity and European Integration. During their stay together, topics such as European climate policy and active nature conservation, for example through planting in mixed forests in the region, should be discussed.

Environment Camp in Warnemünde

A German-French youth encounter specifically on the theme of environmental protection is planned for mid-August in Rostock-Warnemünde. According to the Youth Council, 15 participants from MV and the Rhônes-Alpes region in southeastern France are expected. The meeting is planned to be repeated in the vicinity of the winter sports resort Grenoble next year.

The European Region Pomerania Community is also working on the Polish-German youth exchange, under whose auspices this summer, among other things, holiday trips and joint meetings of young athletes and musicians are taking place.

Study: Grants too complicated

A study commissioned by the Youth Council revealed that there is great interest in exchanges among young people and experts, but a lack of personnel and time resources often hinders international youth work. Grants are often too complicated and time-consuming and hinder the youth exchange, it was stated. A better financial support was also demanded. According to its own statements, the European and Cultural Ministry in Schwerin is contributing 2,000 Euros to the meeting in Karnitz.

  1. The summer holidays in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern provide an opportunity for students to strengthen their ties with international peers, participating in events such as the French-German youth meeting in Karnitz.
  2. In addition to the French-German meeting, a German-French environmental protection encounter is scheduled for Rostock-Warnemünde during summer holidays, promoting integration through shared leisure activities and discussions on climate policy.
  3. The European Region Pomerania Community is facilitating various forms of youth exchange programmes during summer holidays, including joint trips and meetings for athletes and musicians, fostering integration between Polish and German youth.
  4. Despite the interest in international youth exchanges, a study conducted by the Youth Council found that complications with grants and lack of time and personnel resources are common obstacles, with improved financial support being suggested for easier integration.
