The Festival of German Films in Ludwigshafen (21. August to 8. September) will award prizes for acting to Liv Lisa Fries ("Babylon Berlin"), Christoph Maria Herbst ("Contra"), and Joachim Król ("Preis der Freiheit"). The organizers of the second largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate announced that the prizes will go to "outstanding personalities of the acting world," emphasizing "the importance of those who give face to German film and not only for glamour but above all as valuable artists."
The prizes will be presented during the festival, which opens with the tragicomedy "Family is not" by Nana Neul. A total of 64 works will be shown at the film festival, which is the most visited German film festival after the Berlinale. According to the organizers, approximately 108,000 cinema-goers attended the festival last year on the Rhine island directly on the border with Baden-Württemberg.
Films inside and outside
The festival management has now presented the program. In the Jubilee Year, eleven films will compete for the Film Art Prize and the "Rheingold" Audience Prize, including the opening film and, for example, "Falling into Place" by Aylin Tezel and "In Love, Your Hilde" by Andreas Dresen. Furthermore, 27 films will compete for the Audience Prize, such as "The Splendor of Life" by Michael Kumpfmueller and "A Man of His Class" by Marc Brummund.
In the "Gastbeitrag 2024" series with 16 films, "Perfect Days" by Wim Wenders will be shown. The festival runs for 19 days in an open-air cinema and in tents with over 1,000 seats.
