soccer - Freiburg's shoemaker about stripes: We have exchanged a lot

Trainer Julian Schuster from Bundesligist FC Freiburg is certain that he learned a lot from his predecessor Christian Streich. "He gave me something for 16 years, not explicitly, but of course we exchanged a lot and of course there is a lot of Christian in me," Schuster told TV-Sender Sport1. However, we were not always of the same opinion, but that doesn't have to be the case, according to Schuster on the sidelines of the training camp in Österreichisch Schruns.

Schuster joined Freiburg as a player in 2008, with Streich being the co-trainer at the time. From 2012, Streich was the head coach for more than twelve years, with Schuster first remaining a player and also captain, and then becoming co-trainer in 2018.

  1. Following his tenure at SC Freiburg, Julian Schuster expressed gratitude towards his predecessor, Christian Streich, stating, "He has given me something for 16 years, albeit implicitly, but we certainly exchanged a lot, and there's no denying that there's a lot of Christian in me."
  2. During his time at Freiburg, Julian Schuster, who initially joined as a player in 2008, had the opportunity to learn and grow under the tutelage of Streich, who was simultaneously serving as co-trainer.
  3. Despite the occasional disagreements between them, Schuster acknowledged during an interview with TV-Sender Sport1 at the training camp in Schruns, Austria, that having mentors like Streich is invaluable in his role as the current trainer of Freiburg in the Bundesliga.
  4. As the head coach of Bundesligist FC Freiburg, Julian Schuster has been able to apply the lessons he learned from Christian Streich, who served as the team's head coach for more than twelve years, most notably during Schuster's tenure as co-trainer from 2018.
