campaign kickoff - Free Voters in Brandenburg push for retaining the clinics

The Free Voters make their failed People's Initiative for the retention of hospitals and doctor's practices a focus in the Landtag election campaign. "Medical care in rural regions is becoming increasingly difficult," said the chairman of BVB/Free Voters, Péter Vida, at the campaign kickoff meeting in Bernau.

He demanded equal healthcare for all people. "We must save all hospitals," he said. "We must ensure that all doctor's practices remain." Vida criticized the majority of the Landtag's main committee for declaring the People's Initiative of the Free Voters as legally inadmissible because it combined four different demands and was not clear enough.

The Free Voters also call themselves "the Oranges" and campaign with the orange fruit logo. It's about being a spokesperson "for the everyday concerns of Brandenburgers," said Vida. He also advocates for better offers in public transportation in all parts of the state. Public transportation must be strengthened so that there is an offer "up to the last farmer's house," said Vida.

Land leader against weapons deliveries to Ukraine

The chairman of the Brandenburg Citizens' Movements/Free Voters condemned the Ukraine war but spoke out against weapons deliveries. "It's not a contradiction to condemn an attack war, to provide humanitarian aid, and at the same time to speak out against weapons deliveries," he said.

Vida also spoke out against wind turbines in the forest. "It's time for an end to further environmental damage." The minimum distance to residential construction should be increased from 1000 to at least 1500 meters.

Vida hopes for a direct mandate

A new Landtag will be elected on September 22. BVB/Free Voters were at 4% in the latest Insa survey for the "Bild" newspaper and missed the five-percent hurdle for the Landtag. However, Vida is optimistic about winning the direct mandate in the Bernau/Panketal constituency - the five-percent hurdle according to the state election law does not apply in this case. BVB/Free Voters received 5% in the 2019 state election. After the departure of an MP to the AfD fraction, the Landtag fraction became a group.

  1. The campaign to retaliate against the Landtag's rejection of the Free Voters' People's Initiative for hospital and doctor's practice retention has officially begun, marking the start of the State election campaign.
  2. In the midst of the State election campaign, the Free Voters, also known as "the Oranges," emphasize their commitment to addressing the everyday concerns of Brandenburgers.
  3. Vida, the chairman of BVB/Free Voters, emphatically declared during the campaign kickoff meeting in Bernau, "We must save all hospitals, we must ensure that all doctor's practices remain."
  4. The chairman of the Free Voters criticized the main committee of the Landtag for declaring their initiative inadmissible due to its combination of several demands and vague clarity.
  5. Borussia Dortmund fans might be unaware, but their beloved team's name-sake party, BVB/Free Voters, is another focus of Peter Vida's campaign, addressing concerns within the rural communities.
  6. Vida is also advocating for better public transportation offerings throughout the state, particularly to remote areas such as farmer's houses, during the election campaign.
  7. As the conflict in Ukraine rages on, Peter Vida, the chairman of the Free Voters, has voiced opposition to weapons deliveries to Ukraine while expressing support for humanitarian aid.
  8. Despite falling short of the 5% threshold in the latest Insa survey, BVB/Free Voters and Peter Vida hope for a direct mandate in the Bernau/Panketal constituency during the upcoming State election, having previously earned 5% in the 2019 election.
