The city Frankfurt takes in an average of 155 refugees per month, according to its own statements. "Therefore, in Hesse's largest city, there are currently 5,628 refugees and 3,708 homeless people accommodated and cared for," it says in the refugee statistics of the city. Approximately one third of the people are from Afghanistan, nearly as many from Ukraine.

"The situation has eased up a little – but we must continue to keep a close eye on it. For refugee movements are unpredictable," said Social Department Head Elke Voitl (Greens). We are therefore preparing for possible changes in the situation now.

Currently, the state of Hessen assigns 35 refugees per week to the city, as stated. They live in 77 emergency and transitional shelters as well as 24 rented hotels, which are distributed throughout the city. Approximately 56% of the refugees are male. About one third of those accommodated are minors. By the end of the year, around 700 to 800 new housing places are expected to be created, and in the coming year another 500 to 600.

In Frankfurt am Main, a significant portion of the refugees originates from Afghanistan and Ukraine, accounting for nearly one third and nearly as many individuals, respectively. The city is continuously monitoring refugee movements due to their unpredictable nature, as mentioned by Social Department Head Elke Voitl from the Greens. Additionally, the state of Hesse frequently assigns refugees to Frankfurt, contributing to the city's refugee population.
