Handball - Fox-Captain Paul Drux: 'Have ambitious goals'
The handball players of Bundesligist Fuchse Berlin start the new season in good spirits. "The anticipation is huge, I've never had such a long break before. I could have started again earlier, but we want to lay the foundations together and get through a tough, demanding season," said trainer Jaron Siewert in a press conference. "We want to be at the top in all competitions and show the best possible performance as long as we can."
After two Final-Four participations and the vice championship in the previous season, the Berliners also want to attack the top in this year. "We want to show the best possible performance in all competitions and be there as long as possible," said the 30-year-old. "It's also a huge incentive to play in the Champions League. That's the biggest thing. Everyone wants to present themselves there."
Five players are missing in the preparation
Captain Paul Drux also feels the same way: "The load will be high, but we have ambitious goals. Exactly what they look like, we will still formulate, but we don't want less. We want to play at the top again."
However, the playmaker is still working on his meniscus injury, and the half-right player signed from cooperation partner VfL Potsdam, Max Beneke, is still recovering from a knee injury. In addition, Mathias Gidsel, Lasse Andersson, and Max Darj, who participated in the Olympics, are missing.
Siewert, however, expects a complete squad again before the test match tournament in Halle/Westfalen on 24./25. August, where Fuchse will face top clubs THW Kiel, Veszprem, and HBC Nantes. The DHB-Supercup against German champion and cup winner SC Magdeburg on 31. August marks the beginning of the official season.
