Four men on trial for stealing a gold toilet
Four men are on trial in England for the theft of a golden toilet worth around 5.5 million euros. The suspects are accused of stealing the work of art from Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, in September 2019. The suspects will remain at large without conditions until the next court hearing on January 4, 2024, as the court in Oxford ruled on Tuesday.
The precious toilet is a work by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan and was shown as part of an exhibition. The "America" installation was fully functional and could even be used by visitors - but only for a maximum of three minutes at a time to avoid queues. It is assumed that the gold toilet has long since been dismantled or even melted down - at least it has since disappeared.
Despite the intriguing circumstances surrounding the gold toilet's disappearance, authorities are still struggling to locate any remnants of the colorful art piece. The crime scene, being a prestigious palace, has sparked numerous curiosities among the public about the stolen work's processes and potential culprits.
