Four dead in small plane crash in Austria
All four occupants of a sports plane have died in a crash in the Austrian province of Salzburg. According to the police, the single-engine Cirrus SR20 aircraft crashed in the St. Andrä area on Thursday afternoon. The fatalities have not yet been identified. The plane had set off from the Croatian capital Zagreb on a flight to Salzburg before crashing into a forest.
According to the fire department, eyewitnesses had observed the accident and alerted the emergency services. The plane was found in rough terrain. The operation was made more difficult by the fact that the aircraft's rescue parachute had not been deployed. The accident site therefore reportedly had to be secured so that specialists could defuse the explosives used to deploy the parachute. The occupants could only be recovered dead. According to the police, the cause of the accident was still unclear.
The accident involving the small airplane occurred within the air traffic of Austria's Salzburg province. Despite the deployment of eyewitnesses who alerted emergency services, the single-engine Cirrus SR20 plane, which had originated from Zagreb, could not be saved, leading to fatalities.
