The richest people in Germany regularly make it into the Forbes rankings. Dieter Schwarz, the founder of Lidl and Kaufland, will once again be the richest person in Germany in 2023.

His fortune amounts to nearly $39.2 billion (37.4 billion euros). According to Forbes, with such wealth, he tops the list. Schwarz has been among Germany's wealthiest individuals since 2010. In 2019, the business magazine Balance estimated his total assets at a colossal 41.5 billion euros.

Despite being the most affluent German, Schwarz maintains a low profile. There are scarce photos of him in the media, and he generally refuses interview requests. Dieter Schwarz held the top spot in the billionaire rankings last year as well.

While Dieter Schwarz holds the position of the richest German currently, the fortune of Klaus-Michael Kühne, in second place, is also unimaginably vast. The assets of his global logistics group, Kühne + Nagel, are estimated at around $32.1 billion (30.7 billion euros).

The third spot among the richest Germans is occupied by Susanne Klatten, the second heiress of BMW, with a 20.94 % stake. According to Forbes, her current assets are approximately $27.8 billion (26.6 billion euros), surpassing even her brother Stefan Quandt.

Stefan Quandt not only owns 25.83 % of the company's shares but also holds the fourth position with assets totaling $24.7 billion (23.6 billion euros).

Reinhold Würth and his family are in fifth place among the wealthiest Germans this year with a fortune of $16.6 billion (15.9 billion euros). The 87-year-old man is a co-founder of the world-renowned company Würth, considered the largest company in the world in the field of fastening technologies.

And that's not all. Reinhold Würth also owns a yacht worth 150 million euros, a collection of over 20,000 works of art, and five private planes, including an airport. An impressive list.

In addition to being the richest person in Germany as per Forbes' 2023 rankings, Dieter Schwarz has previously held the top spot in previous years. Several other notable individuals, such as Klaus-Michael Kühne with an estimated fortune of $32.1 billion, appear high on the Forbes billionaire list as well.
