misfortune - Five-year-olds rescued from burning sailing ship
Emergency services in Lübeck rescued a five-year-old girl with burns on an arm and a leg from a sailing ship on the Trave. The captain had alerted the DGzRS rescue coordination center in Bremen. The child required immediate medical assistance.
The first boat on the scene was the "Warder" of the Lübeck-Travemünde Water Police, as reported by the DGzRS. Its crew took on the child and its mother, who had already applied a first cooling bandage to their child. In the vicinity of the Skandinavienkai, the Water Police handed them over to the volunteer lifesavers for further care, as they are specifically equipped for such emergencies.
With the Seenotrettungsboot "Erich Koschubs," the volunteer rescuers transported the young patient and her mother further down the Trave to the Priwall-Personenfähre landing stage in Travemünde. A volunteer Seenotärztin and Notfallsanitäter from the Lübeck Fire Department took care of the child, and they were then taken to a hospital in a rescue vehicle.
The type of burn the girl had sustained and why she was on the sailing ship with her mother were not disclosed.
The misfortune occurred during their leisurely travel in Schleswig-Holstein, near the city of Lübeck. The sailboat faced some unfortunate accidents in the vast expanse of water. Despite the setbacks, the family's resolve to continue their journey seemed unshaken.
The news of the incident reached the Water Police, who swiftly responded with their boat, the "Warder". The Water Police's rescue power is a testament to their dedication to ensuring safety on the Trave's waters.
Post-transfer, the DGzRS, Germany's renowned maritime search and rescue organization based in Bremen, continued its assistance. The organization, with its vast network and expertise, played a crucial role in this particular rescue event.
