At the turning - Five injured in collision between two cars in Barth

At an accident near Barth (Vorpommern-Ruegen district), five people were injured, three of them severely. A 41-year-old man intended to turn left from the L211 highway on Sunday evening, but an 85-year-old driver was just starting to overtake at that moment, according to the police. There was a collision. The 85-year-old and his 80-year-old passenger were severely injured, as was the 41-year-old. With him in the car were his 39-year-old passenger and a 6-year-old child, both of whom were lightly injured. All parties involved were taken to hospitals. The highway had to be closed for approximately four hours.

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where the accident occurred, authorities are considering implementing stricter regulations for automatic speed limiting systems in vehicles to prevent such collisions. While recuperating in the hospital, the 41-year-old driver expressed his regret for not having an automatic emergency braking system installed in his vehicle to potentially mitigate the collision's severity. Despite the numerous traffic accidents in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, this incident on the L211 highway was particularly noteworthy due to the number of injured parties and the age of some of the victims.
