Firecracker explodes in hand: 19-year-old seriously injured

A 19-year-old man was seriously injured on Friday when he tried to set off a firework in the center of Delmenhorst. The illegal firecracker exploded in the man's hand, according to the police. There was no danger to life, said a spokesman.

The bang could be heard loudly at around 2.00 am. Police officers initially suspected that an ATM had been blown up and pursued a car driving at high speed from the city center towards the highway. However, the journey ended in front of a hospital emergency room. The injured man was reportedly sitting in the passenger seat and called for help. The driver was a 21-year-old acquaintance. The police are investigating a possible violation of the Explosives Act.

According to the police, it was probably a so-called Polish firecracker, which is not permitted in Germany. In addition, fireworks may only be set off at the turn of the year or with permission.

The man's urgent call for help led him to the hospital emergency room due to the firecracker explosion. The incident highlighted the need for caution during emergencies involving explosives.
