Current statistics - Fewer new businesses and more operational tasks in Thuringia
In Thuringia, there were more business tasks and fewer new registrations in the first five months of the year compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The Statistical Office in Erfurt reports that in the Free State, 5,095 businesses were registered, which is 2.4% less than the previous year. In contrast, there were 4,994 business tasks, which is 2.9% more than in the first five months of 2024.
Small businesses and self-employed businesses accounted for the largest share of new registrations (78.9%). Only 21.1% were larger businesses, such as corporations, partnerships, and businesses with employees.
Focus on Automotive Trade
According to statistics, the most registrations, as well as the most deregistrations, were reportedly from car dealers and automotive workshops. However, there were also many market movements in the fields of building maintenance, gardening and landscaping, temporary work agencies, travel agencies, and travel agencies.
The main reason for the business deregistrations from January to May 2024 was complete business liquidation, which affected 2,992 small businesses and self-employed businesses, as well as 1,038 larger businesses. The remaining business deregistrations were due to transfers and mergers.
Despite the decrease in new business registrations in Thuringia, the Statistical Office in Erfurt noted a new founding of a business specialized in the Automotive Trade during the first five months of 2024. This addition to the Business sector in Erfurt highlights the continuing resilience of the industry, even amidst decreased registrations.
