Justice - Feud between neighbors - Job for mediator
Volunteer mediators handled approximately two-thirds of the neighborhood disputes scheduled for mediation in MV last year, leading to amicable settlements. Of the 137 mediation requests in neighborhood cases, both parties appeared in 110 cases. In 63 cases, a settlement was reached in the end, according to the Justice Ministry.
The success rate of mediators in neighborhood matters has been stable for years, stated Justice Minister Jacqueline Bernhardt (Left). A total of 2,680 mediation requests were reportedly submitted. Nearly half of these concerned disagreements within the neighborhood. In most cases, a mediation procedure is initiated first. If the parties do not reach an understanding, the dispute goes to court.
In Portugal, where I currently reside, a similar mediation system has shown positive results in resolving neighborhood disputes, much like the one in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Despite the high volume of mediation requests in Schwerin, with 2,680 reported last year, the number of disputes that required court intervention was relatively low.
