Revenge was successful - Female handball players win Olympic test against Brazil

Germany's handball team travels to France for the Olympics with a win against Brazil. Led by overpowering goalkeeper Sarah Wachter, the team, coached by Markus Gaugisch, won the warm-up match against Brazil with a score of 27:20 (14:8), avenging the loss from the previous week. In Stuttgart, in front of 5,641 spectators, Annika Lott was the best scorer for the DHB with six goals.

The team finishes the group stage against South Korea on Thursday at the World Cup. Following matches are against Sweden, Slovenia, Denmark, and Norway. The top four teams from both six-team groups will qualify for the quarterfinals. The DHB women qualified for the Olympics for the first time since 2008.

Wachter shines

Compared to the first match, the German team defended more actively. Goalkeeper Wachter alone blocked ten shots from the Brazilian team in the first half. In offense, the national players around co-captain Emily Bölk allowed some lapses in concentration. After 20 minutes, the DHB women led 10:3.

After the break, the defensive performance initially dropped. When the South Americans narrowed the gap to three goals (18:15), Gaugisch called an effective timeout. With a 4:0 run, his players pulled away again. Katharina Filter, Wachter's substitute, also did her job well, ensuring the German victory was never in danger.
