Foreigners Office - Fee evaded - Damage higher than previously known

In the case of a former employee of the Landkreis Osnabück, who is alleged to have embezzled fees at the Foreigners Office, the damage is greater than initially assumed. According to a Landkreis spokesperson, an additional 7,094 Euro has been identified, bringing the total damage to approximately 48,744 Euro. Previously, the "Neue Osnabücker Zeitung" reported online about this.

In January, it was reported by "Spiegel" that the Woman had personally kept fees for the naturalization of foreigners. The Public Prosecutor's Office is also investigating the woman. In the newly identified cases, it is not about naturalizations, but about other residence law procedures, the spokesperson for the Landkreis explained.

The investigation is now complete. It was found that there were unlawful issuances of residence titles. The revocation or withdrawal of unlawfully issued residence titles is to be decided based on a balancing of all reasons for and against revoking the title and maintaining it.

For the case where the reasons for an unlawful issuance lie solely with the authority, the overwhelming interest of the affected person generally speaks against revocation and for the continuation of the residence title.

The dismissed employee acted as an individual. During the investigation, no other findings were made. In January, there were still hints of a go-between.

The woman is reportedly responsible for more than 300 cases of irregular naturalizations. The case worker processed the applications earlier than average, and in the process overlooked security checks. These were subsequently carried out by the Landkreis.

The Landkreis administration became aware of the employee during a routine check. She had allegedly cashed in fees in cash, citing a supposedly defective EC-card reader. The Landkreis has since reassigned responsibilities and drastically reduced the possibility of cash payments.

The dismissal proceedings of the woman are still pending at the Labor Court Osnabück. A hearing for oral argument and potential evidence collection has been scheduled for August 27 at 11:30 am.

The investigation into the misconduct at the Foreigners Office in District Osnabrück, Germany, was conducted by the authorities, leading to the discovery of unlawful issuances of residence titles. Despite the damages exceeding 48,000 Euro, the woman under investigation is currently facing dismissal proceedings at the Public Prosecutor's Office in Germany. The Foreigners' Authority in Lower Saxony will decide on the revocation or withdrawal of the unlawfully issued titles, considering the interests of the affected foreigners. The woman is reportedly responsible for several irregularities, particularly in the naturalization process, where she acted faster than the average and overlooked necessary security checks.
