Federal Prosecutor's Office charges alleged Hezbollah member

War crimes - Federal Prosecutor's Office charges alleged Hezbollah member

The Federal Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against a suspected member of the terrorist militia Hezbollah. The man is accused of committing crimes against humanity in Syria through killing, torture, and deprivation of liberty, as well as war crimes, according to the Karlsruhe authority. The Syrian was arrested in Baden-Württemberg in the last December and has been in pre-trial detention since then. The State Protection Senate of the Higher Regional Court Stuttgart now has to decide whether to hold a trial.

The accused was reportedly a member of the local Hisbollah militia in the Syrian town of Busra Al Sham between 2012 and 2014. Among other things, he allegedly raided civilians' houses with other members, stole numerous items, and ordered the burning of a house. The house inhabitants were reportedly assaulted during the incident, and a group member shot and killed a person. In addition, the accused and other members allegedly kidnapped three civilians in 2013, beat them up, and handed them over to the secret service. In prison, the three victims were reportedly severely beaten by prison guards.
