Education - FDP-Faction supports Freibourne Schools

The FDP-Landtagsfraktion advocates for the strengthening of Special Schools in Sachsen-Anhalt. "We are convinced that inclusive education at regular schools and the targeted support of children with individual, special educational needs can be reconciled," the Liberal position paper states. Special Schools would enable targeted engagement with the needs of students with special educational needs.

The Fraktion explicitly supports the right to choose schools for parents. Previous barriers and bureaucratic legal proceedings for a Special School placement should be eliminated, allowing parents to freely choose the appropriate school form at the start of the school year, it states.

In Saxony-Anhalt, children with learning disabilities can be enrolled in a Special School at the parents' request instead of a regular primary school. The Saxony-Anhalt Primary School Association had criticized early separation as socially unfair in the past. In the 2022/23 school year, approximately 12,200 students attended Special Schools, about 4,200 of whom were in the Special Needs Focus Learning category.

The education at Special Schools, according to the FDP, does not exclude inclusive education. Inclusion means, "that every child has the opportunity to attend the educational institution that best meets their individual needs," it states.

The FDP in the State Parliament of Saxony-Anhalt believes that children with special educational needs would benefit from the strengthening of Special Schools. The FDP's position paper suggests that inclusive education and targeted support for children with individual needs can coexist. Parents in Saxony-Anhalt have the right to choose schools for their children, and the FDP advocates for removing barriers to enrolling children in Special Schools. Despite attending Special Schools, children are not excluded from inclusive education, as every child should have the opportunity to attend the school that best meets their needs.
