Deportations - Fast 700 deportations in the first months of 2024
People from Hessen have been removed from the country up to the end of May this year numbering 685. In the same period last year, it was 598, the Hessian Interior Ministry informed the German Press Agency in response to an inquiry. "Deportations** to the countries of origin as well as transfers under the Dublin III Regulation or in the third country procedure in third countries were recorded." However, a consistent statistical recording of the destinations does not take place.
The Dublin-III Regulation came into force in 2013. If a refugee travels illegally within Europe and files an application in another country, they can be sent back to the country of first entry.
The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees decides on deportation bans in the context of the asylum procedure on a case-by-case basis. These are regularly identified by the Ministry in persons from Syria. "Deportations are currently not possible to other countries of origin due to the situation there or the lack of cooperation, for example to Afghanistan," the Ministry stated.
According to the Foreigners' Registration Office, a total of 13,360 persons subject to deportation were residing in Hessen on May 31st. Currently (as of July 11th), there are 30 people in the deportation detention facility in Darmstadt-Eberstadt. Among them were five women and 25 men.
