Animals - Exotic lizard found near the German border

A exotic lizard was spotted near the German border in Rheinfelden, Switzerland, along a bike path. Locals discovered the approximately 40 centimeter long animal in Swiss Rheinfelden near the Rhine and alerted the police. They caught the animal and took it to an animal shelter.

It is a Bearded Dragon. Such lizards are often kept in private terrariums. It is unclear where the animal came from, according to the Aargau Canton Police. It could have escaped or been deliberately released. The police are looking for witnesses.

Bearded Dragons originate from Australia. They are known to be solitary animals that aggressively defend their territory against intruders. For terrarium owners, however, they are considered harmless.

The animal was seen and captured on a Tuesday. The police announced this on a Friday.

The bike path where the exotic lizard was found is a popular area for locals and tourists in Rheinfelden, Switzerland. The level of curiosity among visitors increased after the news of the rare Bearded Dragon spread. Despite the Rhine serving as a natural border between Switzerland and Germany, it didn't seem to hinder the Bearded Dragon's travel.
