Football-Bundesliga - Exit clause not triggered: Olmo stays with RB for now

Dani Olmo remains a player of RB Leipzig for now. According to several media reports, an exit clause worth 60 million Euros for the Spanish Europa League winner went unused during the night leading to Sunday.

It is known that Olmo, who has been with RB Leipzig for five and a half years and was the best scorer at the Europa League with three goals and two assists, wants to make a new career step. Leipzig would also be willing to let go of the Spaniard. However, it is unclear why there has not been an agreement so far.

The whole Olmo package may be too expensive

It is possible that the financially powerful clubs were not deterred by the 60 million Euros, but by the overall package. This could reach the 100 million Euro mark if additional factors such as double-digit million salaries, agent fees, or signing bonuses are taken into account. In addition, Olmo is known to be injury-prone, and he was only on the field seldom last season due to various injuries.

However, the technician, who was trained in the youth team at FC Barcelona and switched to Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb for 29 million Euros in January 2020, is a difference-maker, as he impressively showed at the Europa League in the decisive knockout phase. RB trainer Marco Rose would like to keep him in his team but is also realistic. He had already said on Friday evening: "I will sleep quietly tonight because we have a good team and will have a good team again. We have ideas, how we might even compensate for things. If then tomorrow the day comes and nothing happens, then the coach is happy."

  1. Despite an exit clause worth 60 million Euros for Dani Olmo, no agreement was reached with potential buyers over the weekend.
  2. Olmo, who has five and a half years of experience with RB Leipzig, expressed his desire for a new career step, and the club is open to letting him go.
  3. The financial powerhouses in Europe might be deterred by more than just the 60 million Euro exit clause when considering a move for Olmo.
  4. Factors like double-digit million salaries, agent fees, and signing bonuses could significantly increase the total cost of acquiring Olmo, potentially reaching up to 100 million Euros.
  5. Olmo's injury history, which saw him limited to few appearances last season due to various injuries, may be another factor deterring potential suitors.
  6. Despite these challenges, Olmo's impressive performances in crucial Europa League matches underscore his value as a difference-maker on the field.
  7. Marco Rose, the Leipzig coach, is open to the possibility of Olmo leaving but remains optimistic about the club's squad, stating, "We have ideas, how we might even compensate for things."
  8. The Bundesliga and Saxony-based club RB Leipzig is well-positioned to navigate potential transfer negotiations, given its strong performance in the Football-Bundesliga and the interest of top clubs like Manchester City, Atlético Madrid, and FC Bayern Munich.
